In today's production environment, there is a multitude of technology designed to make video creation easier and more efficient. Managing video production, I understand that sometimes a communications team can be resistant to technological advancements in this ever-changing environment.
Here are 5 major reasons and solutions for this common issue:
1. Technology being too complex:
Some team members may feel overwhelmed or intimidated by new technology. Production software is a dime a dozen, and some platforms can be complex and cumbersome. To address this, Select the best software and provide thorough training and support to help them feel more comfortable. Allow for smaller projects to get them acclimated to using the new tech. You want your team members to be confident using new tools.
2. Team members want to stay in their comfort zone:
People often resist change because they are comfortable with the way things are. Sometimes this speaks to their work ethic. Encourage your team members to step out of their comfort zones. Let them embrace new technologies by highlighting the benefits and opportunities they offer.
3. Not motivated to try new things:
If team members are not motivated to try new technologies, it could be due to a lack of understanding of the potential benefits. Show them the advantages of using new tools, such as increased efficiency, improved quality, and enhanced creativity. It’s good to show them examples of the desired outcome and explain how the change can help the office’s vision.
4. Unclear vision and goal:
Without a clear vision and goal for incorporating new technologies into video productions, team members may be hesitant to change their processes. As a creative, my production process is sacred, changing it will stifle creativity. Communicate the objectives and benefits of adopting new technologies to ensure everyone is on the same page.
5. Lack of training resources:
If team members do not have access to adequate training resources, they may struggle to adapt to new technologies. The most valuable resource is TIME! Allow your employees to experiment with new tech, this will enable them to adjust their production process to the new software. Try training programs, workshops, and resources to help team members develop the skills they need to succeed in a digital world.
The Wrap-Up! Technology is the core of video production, and staying on the cutting edge with software and techniques is essential in any communications office to effectively tell the story and disseminate the message. By addressing these common reasons for resistance to technological advancements, you can help your team embrace new technologies and thrive in the ever-evolving world of communications.
